We were coming up on my daughter’s first birthday and to be quite honest, through the packing and preparing for our cross country move we were just emotionally, physically and financially spent. We honestly hadn’t even planned on throwing Sailor a celebration {I mean she’s one… it’s not like she is going to remember it} but after family kept asking when it would be, because they were flying out to celebrate her day, we felt we couldn’t leave everyone hanging. So, to E-vites we went.
I feel pride in knowing that I provide a unique experience through my handcrafted décor and treats.. I love being able to say I did that! I hit up Michael’s, Amazon, Etsy and Trader Joes, scowering for adorable must haves to make this Wild & One affair come alive. BoHo Indian was our theme, feathers, dream catchers, florals, tee-pees, nothing was off limits. I just wanted to do it well, without braking the bank since we hadn’t planned on this expense in the first place. With some late nights, swift and meticulous savings, friends and family we pulled off the most adorable and affordable little POW wow.
I made the food of course, by myself….yassss???, but no, it takes a village. My bestie, Mom and Mother-in-law all pitched in slicing, dicing and watching the babies. They were my recipes, which you can find In the EATS section of this blog but I could not have finished it all without them. I made my Tri-colored Pasta Salad, Summer Kale Salad, Deviled Eggs {recipe to follow in near future} and a Spinach dip. Pink lemonade was served as well as donut holes and a smash cupcake. The food was great and the display was on point. Firstly, I cannot stress enough how important a good table cloth is, I use it far more than I ever thought I would. It really just makes everything look like a plan even when it’s an afterthought… ahhmmmm first Bday party. I had purchased reusable trapezoidesk style bowls and cups to match. They really stood out and I loved the geometric aspect it gave to the display. Everyone dined with rose gold “silver” ware, bellies were happy and hearts were full.
I made the dream catchers myself, by using a purchased ring, twine and cute cut up tee shirts and lace. I ended up being able to make three for the same amount of money two kits cost or even better one finished one. I bought plain white feathers and spray paint dipped the tips different colors to match her scheme, purple, pink, sage and gold. By doing it this way I was able to make upwards of 50 versus the ten for $15 at a fraction of the cost. I purchased bushels of fake flowers from Michael’s by using their 40% off coupons. I own mason jars and used those for all the miscellaneous items, forks, knives, flowers, feathers, paper straws, etc. We hung pictures of our daughter, my husband and myself by string and laundry clips, strung up balloons and laid out doilies. One of my favorite additions was a wooden cut out I had made off of Etsy by the SAWDUSTFAIRY. We had made a custom sign design. We got a great deal the sign {I am a repeat customer}. Not only did this sign bring so much unique cuteness it is also something I look forward to adding to her room in the near future…because you know I do not like to spend money without it having a future purpose. To top off the look my great friend lent us her tee-pee for the day as well as cute little signs, decorations and goodies.
All in all I am so happy we went all out for our daughter’s first birthday party. She only gets one, right!?
