Fall Festive Table Scape
With Halloween literally a day away I am sure all my hosts and hostesses are racking their brains on how to get that perfect party décor vibe going. If you are an entertainer at heart, such as myself, you know the key to a great party is not just the people and music but the space you hold it in. So, I am here to give you some last minute tips that not only can be used for your big day, tomorrow, but can be carried over for any event as well.
Firstly, where to shop. I have several favorite stores that never let down. I do suggest starting early, you get the best picks but also the longer you wait the better the sales, so your strategy is up to you. Make an effort to shop around and frequently because they restock daily. Here are my go-to’s
a. My own home- save money by using items you already have and can tweak to follow your holiday theme.
b. Home Goods
c. Target- 1$ bin is my jam.
d. Michaels- daily 40% off coupons are offered on their site.
e. Amazon
f. Marshalls
g. Dollar store- I’ll say it’s hit or miss, but usually more of a hit, if you ask me.
h. I also love to incorporate a few smaller businesses for those unique touches, Etsy, Facebook Market place and Instagram have some amazing small businesses eager to show off their goods. For these particular set up I used two small shops to complete my looks.
Tips to creating your space:
1. Don’t be afraid to reuse items in an unconventional way. For instance, I used our mantel {which is currently not attached} as a center piece. This allowed me to add a fun rustic element to my design.
2. Height! Various degrees of height are an important part of an engaging table scape. Use old books or boxes underneath a table cloth to add this dimension.
3. Shapes and Sizes. Just like height, you want to incorporate a variety of shapes and sizes, it gives the same desire to keep the eyes wondering and enjoying your hard work.
4. Material. I feel that organizing your displays on different materials is a great way to add interest. Woods, metals, clothe, etc. are a great contrast.
a. As you can see in my outdoor design, I showed off the natural wood of the table, lightly draped with gauze and then finished with a butcher paper runner. The writeable runner also gave me the ability to write a cute festive saying… it’s the small details that really go a long way.
5. Fresh blooms are a must. I do not care what anyone says, blooms give your décor life, literally. They add color, smell great and you get to enjoy them for the week to come.
6. Cute, kitchy, signs are a great addition, I found my “October” sign from Wonderfully Made and my letter board from Artistic Atmosphere. They show off your personality and give a well-rounded, finished look.
7. I always find its best to stick with a more sophisticated look and just add in a few of the “fun” items. If you go too crazy of the “fun” stuff, it tends to look immature and of course that is not what we are going for. But a few pieces are always warranted.
8. And of course, the playlist. Here is where you can let your holiday freak flag fly, do it up, be dorky and just enjoy the season.
I have included photos from two different “events”, hopefully these can get your gears grinding and help your décor ideas find their engaging place on our table scape.
