I didn’t want to go too overboard on the rustic aspect, no HEEHAW or cowboy boots, just a hint to give it a relaxed yet classy vibe. To me ‘romantic’ is that dreamy touch that sparkles and shines. It’s a glamorous fairy tale. The rustic aspect is more of the overtone to the day dream. I wanted the theme to stay very true to us, to embody our love and share our story.
We ate BBQ on top of blush linens, sat over cobble stone under twinkling market lights. Our party gifts were personal handmade spring scented candles. Mixed metals held dessert bite sized cobbler, tarts, trifles and everything a sweet tooth could crave were laid out in a beautiful display. Lace met crochet, taffeta met tulle. Swarovski met barn wood, whisky met champagne and grace reigned from the Ranch. It was a stunning manifestation of eclectic beauty.
I love antiques and feel their timelessness really adds class to any setting or venue. I scavenged garage sales, craigslist, yard sales, family and friend’s houses and even the trash for the perfect items to dress up our décor. I think, when it comes to décor throwing in some unexpected items can really jazz up ‘the look.’ For instance, with a romantic rustic theme, everyone expects the fun wooden sign sayings, barrels, even a chandelier is pretty ordinary. So, to stand out from the pack we added, antique wooden suitcases, an ornate rot iron gate door and nine pained antiqued windows. We tied them into the theme by not only using them for their ornamental aspects but making them functional as well. The suitcases held presents and cards, the iron gate was the backdrop to the s’mores roasting area and the windows were used for organizing seating charts. I believe all those items cost us a grand totally of maybe $120.00 and a grand total of all decor just under $600.00. Now I know that is still a lot but if you take into consideration how much space those take up, how they enhanced the ambience and the normal pricing on “wedding items”…I’d say we didn’t do too badly.
I do not know how to do anything on a small scale, so of course our wedding wasn’t going to be the exception. I can’t just have a table with food I need height, color, whimsy and delight. I proposed every surface and stagnant space an opportunity to bring drama and flare, like an art exhibit. Now, figuring out how to do-it-up without braking the bank was a whole other issue, but I made it happen. I am a bargain hunter at heart, always have been, so where there is a will there is a way. I feel my ability to see beauty and diversity in every object allowed me to be able to pull off my vision uniquely and seamlessly.
